How To Remove Nose Hair With A Nose Hair Trimmer / Advice & Knowledge

Nose hair removal isn’t a necessity but it’s a popular part of grooming routines to maintain and neaten hair that protrudes from the nostrils, which can look unsightly and be something of a distraction for those who notice any overgrown nose hair.

Some opt for a less conventional (and considerably more painful) option for nose hair removal by plucking the hair with a pair of tweezers. Eye-watering and sore and prone to leading to ingrown hairs, plucking hairs isn’t the ideal means of hair removal and when it comes to waxing – removing the hairs entirely leaves the nostril and hair follicles open to infection.

Nose hair prevents dust, pollen and allergens from entering your lungs when breathing in and out of your nostrils. Particles often stick to the thin layer of mucus, which coats the hairs in your nose and is usually sneezed out.

How to remove nose hair safely

Nose hair trimmers have been designed to remove hair from just within the nostril by trimming the hair shorter, without the need t remove the hair entirely or closely shave against the skin. The trimmers themselves have been designed to not catch and pull hairs so that there’s no tugging or painful snagging of the hair from the root.

Most are incredibly lightweight, have a comfortable grip, can be both battery and mains charged, have a compact design to easily handle when trimming around the nose and ear.

Many well-known brands have a range of nose hair trimmers from Wahl, Panasonic, Philips, Braun and Remington too – making them a popular choice as tools for hair removal as part of every day grooming routines.

Frequently asked questions about nose hair removal

Is it safe to pluck nose hair with tweezers?

It’s generally not recommended to remove nose hairs by plucking or waxing them from the root. Pulling out hairs entirely can lead to ingrown hairs and infection within the nasal cavity and hair follicles. Waxing can irritate and hurt the skin deeper inside the nose and once exposed to the air – the dust, pollen and allergens – there’s no nasal hair to protect the damaged skin.

What happens if I shave my nose hairs?

Much the same as plucking or waxing them, shaving nose hairs to the skin can cause ingrown hair and infections too. Nasal hair is there to filter out the bad stuff in the air and sometimes trimming nose hair too close can make it easy for bacteria to get into the base of the hair follicle.

Can I use scissors to trim nose hair?

It’s important to be very careful if you’re using scissors to trim nose hair within the nasal passage. Trimming hair that protrudes out will maintain a neat look but cutting within the nose with scissors could lead to an easy slip and more permanent damage.

Can I use a nose hair remover for ear hair removal?

Most nose hair trimmers come with an attachment that can be used to remove ear hair from the outside of the ear. Much like the nose, you don’t want to go too deep into the ear canal as that could cause some serious damage to your eardrum. Remove hair from ears by slowly and carefully using a nose hair trimmer on the outside of the ear where hair protrudes.
